Second year, Unit 16 No ball games 2019-2020. Slavutych, Kyiv Oblast, Ukraine

Description:

After the 1986 powerplant disaster in Chernobyl, 40,000 of the residents in near by Pripyat were forced to evacuate. This nuclear city was home to 9000 of the plant workers. For the next two years these people lived temporarily across the soviet union. Construction commenced immediately on a new town built for the residents who lost their homes and for the plant workers. This town is called Slavutych The town is located 50km from Chernobyl in the north of Ukraine, consisting of a direct train ideal, for the plant workers. Designed by 8 different institutions, all from different soviet republics within the soviet union, designed in the styles of the respective states and cities. Inspired by soviet propaganda posters i decided to create a collection of posters, as a time line starting from its initial planning stage and ending in the current year. A change in the style and language is used as a reaction to the collapse of the soviet union.
